Bridgewater UC is involved with many mission activities such as supporting the two Pastoral Care Workers at schools in our local area, Playgroup, Pancake Day supporting Uniting Care (Sunday Club,) Lent Event, World Vision 40 hour famine (youth,) Stirling Christmas pageant and the Christmas Bowl Appeal. Several BUC members are involved with Prison ministry, visiting the Stirling Hospital and the Estia Aged Care home.
A recent initiative is the ‘Days for Girls’ project. BUC women recently held a sewing day and since then some have become absorbed at home with sewing sanitary kits for girls and women overseas. This enables the girls overseas to attend school for more days and is greatly appreciated.
Twice a year, we are also continuing to support the Hungry No More café associated with Mt Barker UC by cooking a meal for around 40 people and then serving it.
We continue to highlight various issues – asylum seekers, indigenous people, the environment and social justice in our worship services throughout the year.
Cards for Nauru & Manus Island
On Father’s Day the children made cards for the men, families and those remembering families on Nauru and Manus Island. The cards were taken to Parliament House where a peaceful protest was being held.
Red Dove Cafe
At the Royal Adelaide Show some of our members volunteered at the Uniting Church’s Red Dove Cafe which each year raises funds for mission projects within Australia.
